![]() ModernModern dance is the blending of movement technique and dance concepts with the artistry of self-expression, exploration and improvisation. Terpsichorean Dance Studio offers the following Modern Dance classes for students of all ages and abilities. Please see the Class Schedule for specific day, time and teacher information. 18 mo. - 3 yrs. (parent participation required) - Introduces our youngest students to dance elements, musicality and gentle structure, while letting them explore what they can do with their bodies Ages: 1.5 - 3 3 year olds (January 1, 2012 age cut off). Introduces our younger students to dance elements, musicality and gentle structure, while maintaining a positive setting and the creative play necessary to instill a love of dance and a head start for future dance classes. Ages: 3 4 year olds (January 1, 2012 age cut off) - Introduces our younger students to dance elements, musicality and gentle structure, while maintaining a positive setting and the creative play necessary to instill a love of dance and a head start for future dance classes. Ages: 4 An introduction to movement technique and dance concepts, with encouragement of creativity and exploration, all in a fun and positive setting! This class will not be offered during the 2011-2012 season. Please call the studio for waitlist information if you are interested. Ages: 5 - 7 8 - 12 year olds. Focuses on mastering basic Modern Technique and a fusion of other styles while exploring dance concepts, with opportunities for self-expression and creativity. Ages: 8 - 12 Beginning Teen ModernAges 13+. Focuses on mastering basic Modern Technique and a fusion of other styles while exploring dance concepts, with opportunities for self-expression and creativity. Ages: 13 - 18 Beginning / Intermediate Modern Dance for Adults & Teens will explore basic modern technique including concepts such as: increased awareness of rhythm, exploration of space, weight shift, counter-balance, fall and recovery, integration of pedestrian movement and initiation of movement from breath. Dance improvisation will be used as a basis for students to begin building their own choreography in a fun and positive setting. We will use structured dance class music as well as spoken word, nature sounds, world music, rhythm drumming and silence. Class format will include warm-up exercises, center work, across-the-floor combinations, creative exploration, choreography and final stretch. No previous dance experience necessary.
